By acting as both an importer and retailer, Shiquo avoids markups, which allows her to pass savings to customers transparently on TikTok about sourcing and pricing has led to massive popularity but has drawn criticism from competitors.
Import expert Ray notes her business model is efficient and encourages rivals to adapt rather than criticize.
Her approach has earned her a nickname as the “new China Square,” with fans playfully suggesting she expand to import wigs, planes, and even cars. While many customers are thrilled with her affordable products, some Nairobi business owners have expressed frustration, accusing her of undercutting the market and speculating her low prices might be due to counterfeit goods.
Despite the criticism, her store sees constant crowds, often so packed that she sometimes has to ask shoppers to come back on another day.
