Kenyan comedian Oliver Otieno aka comedian YY mourns the death of his grandmother, Zilpa Ogolla, and expresses gratitude on social media for her significant influence on his life.
In his tribute, YY wrote:
“Rest well, Dani (Mama Zilpa Ogolla)… You fought a very painful battle. Thank you for your influence on my education. Dani will be laid to rest on September 27, 2024, in Kosele village. Nind Gi kwe Min Dolly.”
In a previous interview, YY shared his childhood experiences, including an abusive father, which significantly impacted his development due to his physically abusive environment.
“When I was in high school, I experienced a lot of physical abuse. This also influenced who I am today. I have never forgotten the abuse I went through, even though I have forgotten some of the good things,” he said, visibly emotional.
“I was raised in Nairobi for eight years until my dad passed away when I was in Standard 3. My dad used to beat my mum severely. I wanted to protect my mother, so I often intervened during those times,” YY reflected during the interview.
