Renowned singer Millicent Jepkorir, also called Marakwet Daughter and best known for the hit song “Mali Safi Chito,” declares that she is single and invites suitors to court her.
Despite her occasional appearances on social media with different men, the Kalenjin singer refuted rumors that she was in a relationship in an interview with vloggers.
In reference to her marital status, Millicent Jepkorir declared:
“Having a man is not a bad thing, but I think for now, I have not yet gone to church. As you can see, I do not have a ring. I am still in the market. Get me out. But don’t come without a plan. Or you’ll know that you don’t know. I am still in the market like dates.”
The singer talked candidly about her early marriage earlier this month, saying that she wed at the age of 16 in order to get away from her family’s lack of wealth.
But the marriage became turbulent, and she had to go through five years of hardships before she made the decision to leave her husband and go back home.
“I didn’t go to high school. I got married at 16 years old. Then, things were so rough that it made me prefer the life I had at home to the one I was having in my house. Then I left him when I was 21. I went through a lot.
I was so blessed that anything I touched would flourish, but family conflict erupted in my ex-husband’s family. I went through many things. I was beaten and at some point I got depressed. I couldn’t sleep. I went to the hospital,” she revealed during the interview.
Jepkorir revealed that she eventually made a full recovery after seeking medical attention.
On Thursday, January 25, she received a sizable payment from the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), which granted KSh20 million in royalties to a number of Kenyan musicians.
Famous for her hit song “Mali Safi Chito,” Marakwet Daughter was pleasantly surprised to receive over KSh100,000, exceeding her initial expectations.
