Kenya has been banned indefinitely by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) due to state interference.
In a statement Thursday, February 24, 2022, FIFA President Gianni Infantino banned Kenya with Zimbabwe, adding that the ban would come into effect immediately.
“We had to suspend two of our member associations — Kenya and Zimbabwe. Both for government interference in the activities of the football associations. These associations are suspended from footballing activities with immediate effect. They know what needs to be done for them to be reinstated,” Infantino’s statement read in part.
As a result of the ban, Kenyan clubs will not be able to participate in international championships and referees will also be banned from playing international matches. The ban will take place months after Amina Mohamed, the secretary of the Sports Cabinet, disbands the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and establishes a Caretaker Committee chaired by retired Judge Aaron Ringera.
