Karen Nyamu has confessed that she once dated a mubabaz (sugar daddy) for material gain.
The UDA-nominated senator opened up about dating a man for money while speaking during an interview with a local radio station.
Nyamu said she defied her father’s advice to date the mubabaz who paid her rent.
The mother of three disclosed that her father explicitly warned her against allowing any man who is not her husband to pay her rent.
Nyamu noted her dad gave her the advice while she was moving out to rent her own house.
“Najitayarisha tu kivyangu nataka kuhama lakini sijamwambia so wakati namwambia tulienda na yeye Nakumatt akanichukulia vitu kadhaa akanilipia mwenyewe akanirelease na akaniambia ‘Karen mwanaume asiwai kukulipia rent ya nyumba. Ukikosa rent wee rudi nyumbani lakini usiwai kubali mwanaume ambaye si bwanako akulipie rent ya nyumba’. Na hio ni advice ambaye ntacarry on kwa watoto wangu kwa sababu imenipatia a lot of freedom,” she said.
“Na haijawai kua? Hakuna mwanaume amewai kulipia mheshimiwa? (Has it never happened? There is no man who has ever paid your rent?)” Karen Nyamu was asked.
The senator admitted that at one point she disregarded her father’s advice and allowed a man to pay her rent only to learn her lesson the hard way.
“Wacha nikuambie. Ilifika time nikakiuka hio advice kidogo. Lakini mimi mwenyewe nilijichuna maskio. Na ni vizuri saa ingine kutest ka advice ndo unakuja unakubaliana baadaye. So ni kitu ambaye nilikiuka kidogo but nilijua kwa nini huwezi fanya hivyo coz I knew where it is coming from. Na so si regret lakini siwezi kubali tena,” she said.
“Nani huyo mheshimiwa alikufanya ukakiuka advice ya daddy? (Who is that that made you defy your dad’s advice?)” Karen Nyamu was asked.
“Mubabaz hehehehe,” she replied while laughing.
“Kwani how much was the rent ndo ukasema hii lazima niekelee mtu? (How much was the rent that you said someone else must pay?)” Nyamu was asked.
The mother of three said her rent was only Ksh35,000 but noted that it was not expensive as such given that rents in Westlands could cost as much as Ksh200,000.
Karen Nyamu regretted that the Ksh35,000 rent that the mubabaz was paying for her was not worth the freedom that she sacrificed dating him.
She said the sponsor only paid her rent for about two months before she decided to dump him because he was very controlling.
“Haikua nyumba expensive sababu ukiskie Westlands unaskia maybe ni 200,000. Ilikua 35,000. Which is very little money for hio, wanakukatilia kafreedom, kaentilement ambaye hutaki. So lakini sikukubali for long. Ni kama miezi mbili tu. I am very independent person na nkiona independence yangu inakuja kukatiliwa siwezi kubali. By no means siwezi kubali. So ni kituu nilikataa,” Karen Nyamu explained.
Karen Nyamu is currently dating Muthigi singer Samidoh who is the father of her two children.
About two weeks ago, Samidoh was asked if Nyamu would have dated him if he was broke and he replied.
