Rigathi Gachagua: In Kikuyu land leopards and tigers are the same

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has defended the remarks he made in Colombia stating that one can find tigers in Kenya.

Speaking during a gala dinner in Nairobi organised by the Kenya Red Cross, the DP said when one goes to a foreign country, they don’t become a citizen of that nation but remember where they come from.

“Some of us when we are speaking, we think in our mother tongue and translate to English,” he said.

Gachagua added that where he comes from (Kikuyu land) the leopard and the tiger are one of the same.

“When I was talking about the tiger, I saw some critics asking me where the tiger is. I am telling them from the Kikuyu nation where I come from the two animals are the same,” he added.

“You are invited to see our leopard/tiger in our national parks.”

His remarks last week left Kenyans and the world shocked after he said Tigers are found in the country.

He invited business leaders to invest in Kenya and also experience species of wildlife such as Tigers.

“Kenya is a very warm country, we are very welcoming people, very hospitable and we invite Colombian business people to come and invest in Kenya,” he said

“Again, as you come to invest in Kenya, we have many facilities for tourism. We have rare species of wildlife; the Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, and Tiger.”
