A picture of a text message exchange that purportedly shows Senator Samson Cherargei asking for a bribe has gone popular on social media.
According to a screenshot seen by mkenyaleo, the lawmaker allegedly demands a KSh 3 million bribe to protect a certain lady, using his real phone number.
The mysterious woman was to be shielded from the chairman and members of an unnamed committee.
According to the discussions, the money needed to be transferred to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) by Tuesday, June 20.
Cherargei encouraged Kenyans to disregard the discussions while distancing himself from them on Twitter.
According to him, somebody swindling trusting Kenyans attached his phone number to the image and edited it.
“Ignore this propaganda! Some hoodlums photoshopped my number. These are desperate individuals who are used to propaganda, blackmail and intimidation,” he said, naming a recruitment agency he claimed had swindled people.
