Safaricom, the world’s largest telecommunications company, has halted the distribution of birthday bundles to its subscribers.
On their birthdays, Safaricom gave their clients a 1GB bundle.
This has since ceased, leaving many asking why the telco has stopped sending out the bundles.
“Why didn’t you give me data bundles on my birthday Safaricom PLC?” a user identified as Chelsea Boy asked on social media.
In response to Chelsea Boy, Safaricom revealed why many Kenyans no longer have access to the service.
The telco said the system that awards the gift is down for repair, but it did not say when the service will be restored.
“Hi Chelsea Boy, unfortunately, the Birthday Bundle promotion was stopped, as from 28th April 2023, as it is undergoing maintenance, however, you will be awarded the data in your next birthday. Apologies for the inconvenience,” it stated.
Kenyans have been using the service for some time.
On October 25, 2018, Safaricom started its anniversary service.
The Service allows Safaricom PrePay and PostPay users to make low-cost voice calls on their birthdays and those commemorating ten (10) years or more on the Safaricom network.
Furthermore, qualifying subscribers were eligible to receive 1GB on their birthdays and when they celebrated ten (10) years or more on the Safaricom network.
