Kenyan singer Kevin Kioko, better known as Bahati, has taken a moment of reflection as he celebrates 10 years in the music industry.
Once hailed as one of Kenya’s most promising gospel stars, Bahati’s journey has been one of transformation, controversy, and redemption.
As he looks back on a decade filled with both triumphs and turbulence, the Adhiambo hitmaker has opened up about his struggles, growth, and faith — culminating in a public apology to his fans and to God.
Bahati’s career began in the gospel scene, where he rose to fame with soulful tracks like Mama and Barua. However, his eventual crossover to secular music sparked widespread debate among fans who had admired his spiritual beginnings.
Over the years, Bahati became one of Kenya’s most talked-about entertainers, known for his hit songs, bold fashion choices, and attention-grabbing social media moments — from clout-chasing stunts to cross-dressing videos and explicit lyrics.
Despite the criticism, his influence in Kenya’s music industry remains undeniable.
After a year-long break from the spotlight, Bahati made a comeback with a new song titled Seti, which immediately drew backlash from sections of the public accusing him of promoting immorality.
Responding to the criticism, Bahati shared a lengthy emotional message reflecting on his journey and expressing gratitude to his fans.
“I have received many calls, messages from close friends, fans, pastors, and even strangers since I made my musical comeback with Seti. And I did not want to reply to anyone based on emotions because I respect you all,” Bahati said.
“I am marking 10 years in the music scene, and I want to start by saying thank you for your support. It has kept me on top for all those years.”
Bahati Reflects on His Journey
The Adhiambo hitmaker recalled his humble beginnings and the hardships of growing up without parents.
“I turned 18 without parents and never had a father figure. I have tried to be a role model to my children and my family,” he shared.
He admitted that living under public scrutiny has not been easy and acknowledged making mistakes that may have disappointed those who once looked up to him.
“As a young person, I agree that I have made a lot of mistakes along the way. I have lost the way several times, and I have let down people who look up to me. To some point, I have lost your trust. And I understand. But I believe I have done my best as a young man who has grown in the public eye, subject to criticism,” he added.
Bahati’s Heartfelt Apology to Fans and God
In his emotional statement, Bahati apologised to his fans, family, and God, admitting that he has fallen short at times.
“I apologise for all the times you feel like I do not act as a responsible father to my kids and those who follow me. I apologise for all the times you feel like I let Christianity down. But most importantly, to my father in heaven, the one who knows my heart, forgive me of my sins. I’m just a man. I have never left you, God,” he said.
Bahati also prayed for a public sign from God to silence his critics and affirm that he still maintains a strong relationship with Him.
The singer concluded with an emotional video in tears, expressing gratitude to God for His mercy and hinting at a fresh start — one built on faith, growth, and humility.
As he marks a decade in the music scene, Bahati seems ready to redefine his path and restore his connection with both his fans and his faith.
