The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has increased allowances earned by State and civil servants based in Nakuru County.
According to a press statement, SRC explained that it had revised upwards the per diem rates for State officers and civil servants working in the county. .
Further, the SRC on Thursday, February 10, stated that the new changes were arrived at following the elevation of the county headquarter to a city last year.
SRC explained that Nakuru’s rates will now be similar to other cities including Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa.
“Following conferment of city status on Nakuru town, as per Executive Order No. 6 2021, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has reviewed the cluster placement of Nakuru for purposes of payment of Daily Subsistence Allowances (DSA) from county headquarters to cities, to be in tandem with the rates payable for other cities,” SRC statement.
In the statement, the SRC announced that State officers in job grade F4 will be receiving Ksh22,000 as per diem on local travel, an increase from the Ksh18,000 they were being paid.
Officers in grades F1, F2 and E5 were awarded Ksh18,200 up from Ksh14,600 while those in grades E3 and E4 were allocated Ksh16,800 in the new changes.
SRC stated that officers in grades E2, E1, and D5 received a Ksh3000 increase in their per diem and they will now be getting Ksh14,000 while those in grade D4 will be paid Ksh11,200.
The SRC stated that civil servants in job group U-V, which is the highest group, received Ksh18,200 up from the Ksh14,600.
Those in job groups S-T and P-R will be receiving Ksh16,800 and Ksh14,000 respectively while employees in groups K-N were allocated Ksh11,200. Civil servants in groups F-J were allocated Ksh6,300 while those in job groups A-E will earn Ksh4,200.
SRC last reviewed the rates in 2017 when Nakuru was still a municipality.
The new review by the SRC applies to all State officers and civil servants both at national and county governments.
