Silvanus Osoro, MP for South Mugirango, has pledged to fund a promising kid who nearly missed out on a spot at Starehe Boys Centre due to financial constraints.
The boy received 412 points in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), but his history prevented him from enrolling.
He has now been accepted into Osoro’s scholarship program, which will fund his education for the next four years.
“One student who scored 412 marks got a calling letter from the Starehe Boys Centre, but due to hardship, the boy had no hope of even enrolling in a local harambee school. He will begin class tomorrow,” announced the MP.
The legislator is supporting a group of high school students from his constituency.
On Tuesday, February 7, the MP launched his sponsorship initiative, Osoro Care Club, in collaboration with other well-wishers.
According to him, 700 children have begun secondary education, with the majority enrolling in national schools.
According to Osoro, the charity cause will benefit KCPE top performers with at least 350 points.
“The programme that is 80% sponsored by yours truly aims at mentoring this generation as we fully pay for their study fee to 4th form. 90% of beneficiaries are students who sat for their exams in our public schools and scored over 350 marks but sadly, their hopes of studying were dimmed due to hard economic times,” he announced.
Besides the scholarship, Osoro stated that the beneficiaries would be subjected to mentorship programs in line with their careers of choice.
Kisii High School has since admitted a section of the cohort sponsored by the MP.
“Special gratitude for the support given by several education stakeholders led by Mogaka. The Kisii School principal graciously partnered with us as we sought admission for some bright but needy students.
The ‘club’ will engage professionals from various fields to mentor each student in line with their dreams every holiday season,” said Osoro.
