The Atheists in Kenya Society (AIK) appears to be insolvent and unable to cover its overhead expenses.
On Monday, November 7, the non-believers made a plea on Twitter for support in raising KSh 18,000 to cover the society’s monthly office rent.
Additionally, the society is collaborating with Human Rights for Atheists to undertake a fundraising effort to help its president Harrison Mumia with his immediate needs.
According to a statement from the society, “the money will help the president, Harrison Mumia, with housing bills while in between jobs – after being dismissed by his company for a tweet – so he can focus on his crucial function as president of the only registered atheist organization in Kenya.”
The organization claimed that the funds received will also be used to support its legal defense against what it described as anti-atheist discrimination being practiced by Kenyan government officials.
