On Saturday, October 15, President William Ruto appointed Mohammed Amin Ibrahim as the new Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss.
Amin replaced George Kinoti, who tendered his resignation and has since been redeployed to the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Ruto gazetted him as the new DCI boss on October 14.
Hours after his appointment, the new DCI boss stated that he would respect the rule of law while undertaking his mandate.

The newly appointed DCI boss has served the National Police Service for over 30 years.
He has held senior positions which include the director of investigations at the DCI headquarters and director of the Banking Fraud Unit.
Mr Amin holds the rank of senior assistant inspector general of police.
He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree at Egerton University in Criminology and Security Management.
Amin lists his hobbies as reading, training, sports and leadership.

In his resume, he states, that he “offered focused leadership and management of investigation in different capacities within the National Police Service for 33 years. ”
He was the Rift Valley regional DCI boss in 2007 when the country witnessed the post-election violence.
Amin states that some of his achievements in his law enforcement career include “successfully investigated a case involving former Deputy Chief Justice Ms Nancy Baraza versus Rebecca Kerubo and testified before the Judicial Service Commission Sub-committee and the Tribunal chaired by Retired former Chief Justice Augustino Ramadhani in 2012.”
He also investigated and prosecuted the murder case of the late Bishop Luigi Locati of Isiolo Diocese and prosecuted a Catholic Priest and five others. The case is still before High Court, Nairobi, 2005.
He also prides himself in successfully coordinating investigations and prosecution of Post-Election Violence cases in Rift Valley province: 2007-2008.
This week, a total of ten candidates were shortlisted for the position of the DCI, weeks after former DCI boss Mr George Kinoti resigned.
The ten include; Mr David Kipkosgey Birech, Mr Amin Ibrahim Mohamed, Mr Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, Mr Nicholas Kimwende Ireri, Mr Paul Jimmie Ndambuki, Ms Esther Chepkosgei Seroney, Dr Simon Mwangi Wanderi, Mr Jonyo Michael Wiso, Mr Bernard Barasa Walumoli and Mr Gideon Nyale Munga.
What next for Kinoti
Mr Kinoti, resigned after President Dr Ruto was sworn in as the Head of State by Chief Justice Ms Martha Koome.
