Martha Karua: “The court has spoken. I respect but disagree with the findings”

The deputy presidential candidate for Azimio, Martha Karua, has declared on social media that she respects the Supreme Court of Kenya’s conclusions, but does not agree with its decision to affirm William Ruto’s victory in this year’s presidential election.

“The court has spoken. I respect but disagree with the findings,” Martha Karua tweeted.

A seven-judge bench at the Supreme Court of Kenya unanimously upheld the win of William Ruto after determining that the nine primary points stated in the poll petition did not make the cut to nullify the election.

When it comes to technology, the court noted there was no evidence of a man in the middle server, and no evidence was offered to suggest that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati and any IEBC officials were involved.

The Supreme Court also found no major variations between forms posted on the portal and forms delivered to Bomas at the IEBC National Tallying Centre.

CJ Koome further stated that the court did not see how the IEBC was targeting voter suppression by postponing elections.

On whether there were inexplicable variations in votes cast for President and other elective offices, the Supreme Court decided that the first petition did not produce a single document to indicate ballot stuffing.

The bench further noted that the four commissioners actively participated in the tallying and verification process from the start till the Chairperson declared the final results.

The court also determined that William Ruto attained the 50%+1 vote threshold required to clinch Kenya’s top seat.
