EXPLAINER: Forms 34 A, 34B, and 34 C – What are They and Their Purpose?
Forms 34A, 34B, and 34C have been the key aspects in the ongoing verification process of the presidential results.
Surprisingly, many Kenyans do not understand what these forms are and their purposes even as they engage on their social media platforms on who will win.
Mkenya Leo decided to plug you in and explain the work of these forms so that you can debate informatively when you discuss about the verification of results.
Here’s an explanation of these forms and their functions.
Form 34A
This is the primary document as it is used in the polling stations. The returning officers record the presidential results of the polling stations. They then sign the document and forward it to the IEBC portal.
It is important to note that Form 34A includes the number of votes each presidential candidate garnered, the total number of registered votes, and the number of valid and rejected(disputed, protested) votes.
Form 34B
This form collects the results from the polling stations and groups them as constituency results. In layman’s language, it is like compiling all the 34A documents in a constituency to determine the results per constituency.
The data collected by Form 34B include the polling station codes, station name, numbers of all registered voters, total votes per candidate, rejected votes, and valid votes.
It is worth noting that there are 290 constituencies in Kenya, which means that you should expect 290 Form 34Bs by the end of the verification process.
Also, importantly, verifying this document entails matching its data with that of Form 34A to confirm if the results were filled in correctly.
Form 34C
It is the final document of the verification process as it is a compilation of the 34B forms. It is the official document from which the IEBC commission announces the final presidential results.
