Shock as Ambira High School deny students food for a week over fee balances

Parents are furious after hearing reports that pupils at Ambira High in Siaya County were denied lunch because they had not paid their fees.

Speaking to Nation, parents stated that students who had unpaid fees had been refused food for the previous week.

Ms. Mary Auma reported hearing rumors that the school administration had made the decision to punish kids whose parents had not finished paying fees by depriving them of meals.

According to reports, the school has started giving out meal cards to children whose parents have paid tuition.

The affected students are compelled to eat between classes or rely solely on snacks.

Jim Njoka, the commissioner for Siaya County, claimed to have heard concerns regarding the situation. He declared that education had been dispatched to the location to look into the situation.

Mr. Njoka stated, “The situation has come to my attention, and we are conducting investigations to determine what is happening at the school.

The principal of Ambira High, Joseph Otieno, refuted claims that students with unpaid fees were being refused lunch. However, he acknowledged that Sh70 million in unpaid tuition arrears were owed to the institution and urged parents to pay the remaining balances.

He accused some parents of disseminating false information about the institution by failing to pay their children’s tuition.

“We have not sent any student home. What we have done is to notify the parents to pay fees. All learners are having their normal meals regardless of whether they have paid fees,” said Mr Otieno.
