President Uhuru Kenyatta’s older sister Kristina Wambui has been put forward for the Senate nomination by the Jubilee Party.
Kristina is named second among the 16 women the ruling party has decided to support as its candidates for the legislative chamber on a party list released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Despite coming from one of Kenya’s most prominent political families, Kristina, also known as Kristina Pratt, is a political novice at the age of 70.
Margaret Kamar, a 63-year-old senator from Uasin Gishu, and Ann Kananu, the current governor of Nairobi, are two other notable women nominated alongside Kristina.

Rukia Ahmed Subo Muhamed, the Kenyan ambassador to Iran, has also been proposed for Senate consideration, while Sabina Chege, a Murang’a woman, has been elected to the National Assembly.
Sammy Leshore, who has been nominated to represent people with disabilities in the Senate, and Alex Matere, who has been nominated to the National Assembly, are two more important nominees.
Matere is a member of the presidential campaign staff for Azimio la Umoja.
Along with Hassan Aden Osman, who held the same position in the 11th Parliament, Nelson Dzuya, national chairperson of the Jubilee Party, has also secured a nomination spot in the National Assembly.
Issac Githua and Consolata Mutinda have also been named by Jubilee as candidates to represent marginalized communities in the Senate as young people.
The IEBC announced in a gazette notice on Wednesday that parties who feel they have been wronged by the final party lists are free to file complaints starting on Friday, July 28, 2022.
