If elected governor of Machakos in the upcoming August elections, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party chief Johnson Muthama has pledged to donate half of his salary to poor kids so they can enroll in school.
While addressing a gathering in Machakos, Muthama made a commitment to support children’s education and fully equip hospitals, among other issues impeding countywide progress.
“I do not need a salary. Per my manifesto, I will give out 50% of my salary to needy children so that they can go to school,” he said.
He continued by emphasizing that his goal is to protect people’s finances so that they might be used to create a better, more affluent community rather than to make money off of them.
To succeed the current Governor Alfred Mutua, Muthama will face a number of other deserving challengers who have also entered the race.
They include former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, Deputy Governor Francis Maliti, Rose Mulwa of the Empowerment and Liberation Party, and former transport and infrastructure CAS Wavinya Ndeti.
