In view of the recent increase in fuel costs, Arimis, a local manufacturer of milking petroleum jelly, has informed its customers that the price of the product will not be increased.
Retailers stock the product in three different SKUs: 50g, 90g, and 200g.
Taking to Facebook, the manufacturer assuaged the fears of its customers, who had presumably expressed their concerns about the constant rise in the price of basic necessities.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a KSh 9 per litre increase in fuel pump prices on Tuesday, June 14, with super petrol, diesel, and kerosene retailing at KSh 159.12, KSh 140, and KSh 127.94, respectively.
Arimis Kenya has now stated that its current prices will be maintained.
“Ooh, Nooo! As fuel increases, we welcome you our products. They’re still the same price. We understand your pockets,” the company said.
Rebranding
Late last year, Arimis was forced to clear the air over alleged rebranding.
I did the unthinkable, I decided to rebranded your favorite brand as a slightly premium product. This is a passion project, I hope you like it. If you do check out it the rest of it here https://t.co/M8E2xSqCpk #brand #project #logodesign #rebranding #arimis #arimiskenya pic.twitter.com/wppwpSOfqn

Uncertainty on whether the petroleum jelly had actually rebranded lingered on, prompting Arimis Kenya to clarify on social media that the product’s packaging hadn’t undergone any reinvention, whatsoever.
Arimis, a petroleum jelly originally meant for milking, has, over the years, grown into a household skincare product, stocked heavily in supermarkets, both in rural and urban centres.
The product, whose popularity has been organic, with minimal or no advertising, has been embraced by both men and women.
In July 2019, communications expert Mariga Thoithi commended Arimi’s for effortless brand acceptance.
“Arimis is an interesting example of the evolution of products. How milking jelly turned into people’s choice petroleum jelly without advertising or intention. It’s now stocked by all major supermarkets with the same milking jelly branding,” he said.
