“Heri mrudi maandamano!” – Oscar Sudi tells Raila over new demands

Raila Odinga, the head of Azimio la Umoja, has come under fire from Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi for his requests for talks with the government on Tuesday.

The lawmaker expressed dismay at Raila’s desire for the conversation to resemble that of 2008.

He questioned the connection between the 2008 National Accord and the concerns about lowering living expenses and opening IEBC servers.

“I am shocked to hear Raila Odinga desperately seeking talks like the 2008 National Accord using the issues of the price of unga and opening of @IEBCKenya servers. Do these issues even relate? Heri tu mrudi Maandamano nyinyi,” Sudi said.

Following the contentious 2007 presidential election, which saw post-election violence after former President Mwai Kibaki (late) was declared the victor, came the 2008 National Accord.

Koffi Anan, a former UN Secretary-General, presided over the National Accord negotiations (late).

Tuesday, Raila stated that the solely parliamentary nature of the President William Ruto-proposed bipartisan negotiations may prevent them from completely achieving their intended goals.

“It is the resolution of this meeting that a purely Parliamentary process will not serve the intended end, our suggestion is to have a conversation at the national level through a process akin to the 2008 National Accord,” the statement reads in part.

Azimio said the resolve came after holding deliberations following Sunday’s truce between Raila Odinga and President Ruto.

“We are going to have Members of Parliament in it but they are going to sit outside Parliament, they will negotiate and only take the final product to Parliament as an accord which will then be passed by Parliament.

We don’t want it to be taken then be encumbered with the rules of Parliament,” Raila said on Tuesday.

The coalition on Tuesday said the bipartisan talks proposed by President William Ruto being purely Parliamentary may not fully achieve the intended objectives.

Azimio said the resolve came after holding deliberations following Sunday’s truce between Raila Odinga and President Ruto.

We don’t want it to be taken then be encumbered with the rules of Parliament,” Raila said on Tuesday.

Azimio has also proposed that a team be drawn from its ranks both in Parliament and outside Bunge and that the cost of living issues should be a top priority.

“To this end, the coalition proposes a team drawn from its rank both in Parliament and outside Bunge, we want it to be a process that is people driven.”

“We emphasise that all the issues we have laid out in public carry equal weight to us though the high cost of living must be resolved urgently.”
