President Uhuru Kenyatta’s military farewell on Friday left Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Rachel Omamo in tears.
Omamo, who worked for Uhuru in a variety of positions, was seen crying as the soldiers and other guests bid Uhuru farewell.
She was unable to contain her feelings.
As Uhuru departed Lang’ata Barracks in Nairobi, the CS wiped away her tears with a handkerchief, collected herself, and followed him.
Uhuru thanked his supporters in his farewell speech and credited their enormous help with helping him leave a lasting legacy.
“I most sincerely thank all Kenyans for their extraordinary support to me, which made and continues to make significant contributions towards the prosperity of our nation.
“I thank everyone who has walked the talk with me and especially you the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF),” President Kenyatta appreciated.
Between 2013 to 2020, Omamo, a skilled lawyer who served as Defence CS, played a crucial role in putting Uhuru’s military policies into action both inside and outside of Kenya.
She is in charge of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), which include the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, and Kenya Navy. Uhuru gave her this responsibility.
She drafted and carried out bilateral agreements and assisted Uhuru in sending the KDF on peacekeeping missions all over the world.
Omamo also represented Kenya in regional organizations, particularly in 2013 and 2014, when he presided over the Council of Defense Ministers of the Eastern Africa Standby Force.
She held the position of Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO before to joining Uhuru’s cabinet. Omamo participated in the Task Force for Creating the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as well.
She also served briefly in the leadership of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
The future of her political career is still unknown as President-elect William Ruto assumes office on Tuesday, September 13.
Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt. Gen. Francis Omondi Ogolla, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, and CSs Eugene Wamalwa (Defence) and Monica Juma were also present at Uhuru’s goodbye ceremony (Energy).
