“We thank God for giving us victory…We will respect Supreme Court ruling” – William Ruto

Kenya Kwanza’s William Ruto has praised God for the peace that was witnessed in Kenya during the General elections, despite a section of leaders planning violence.

Speaking on Sunday in Njoro, he asserted that the calm was a reason for Kenyans, particularly those in the Rift Valley, to give thanks to God.

“This is our third Sunday service after Kenya went to Ballot and it’s the first one we have had in Rift Valley. All of us as residents of Rift Valley have a reason to thank God,

“There are many who wanted to know what will transpire especially in the Rift Valley region after the elections were held,” Ruto said.

The president-elect alleged that political false prophets had foretold unfavorable post-election actions, particularly in the Rift Valley region.

But according to Ruto, the same God who granted him victory also made it possible for the area to remain peaceful.

He even went ahead and quoted one of the beatitudes in the Bible, Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”

“False prophets had predicted bad things and preached on tribalistic and hatred messages but God has enabled us to conduct peaceful elections and gave us victory,” he added.

On August 15, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Deputy President William Ruto the President-elect after he defeated Raila and two other candidates in the poll on August 9.

Ruto was declared the winner with 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 per cent of the votes cast, against Raila’s 6,942,930 votes, or 48.85 per cent of the votes cast.
