Nyandarua MCA Candidate Who Went Viral for Asking Electorate to Return His Money after Gathering Seven Votes Decries Fake Friends and Family

“Usiweke siasa kwa roho” is real!

A member of the county assembly (MCA) candidate in Nyadarua who went viral for asking electorates to return his money has called out his fake friends and family for not voting for him.

John Olkalou, who ran for the Kiambaga Ward MCA seat, was disappointed after he managed to garner only seven votes despite his popularity. He ran under the Roots Party and was confident that he would win because people showed him that was loved.

In the viral post, he had given the electorates 24 hours to return his money since they had betrayed him by not voting for him.

In an interview with TUKO News, he retracted his statement, claiming that it was out of anger.

He explained that he had even given people money to win their votes, as is a trend in the Kenyan political culture. He disclosed that spent Ksh 250, 000 to campaign despite being a car dealer as his main hustle.

He went on to reveal that he had taken a step further to give people maize floor at a time when Kenyans were decrying the skyrocketing prices of maize floor.

He claimed that he was shocked to win seven votes despite having many friends and more than 100 relatives.

The father of one claimed that he had learned not to trust friends and families.

“Hii dunia usiwahi sema uko na rafiki. Rafiki yako ndio adui yako,” he said.

He swore never to run again or give people money to please them. He regretted that he would have used his money to boost his business; thus, he was going to concentrate on business in the future.

“Sitawahi run tena, sahii ni kuconcentrate na business na mambo ingine, (I’ll never run again, let me concentrate on my business and other things,” he swore.

Nonetheless, Olkalou has advised his fellow defeated candidates to heart and move on as he is doing.
