The letter was labeled as a forgery by the IEBC, which stressed that the letter that went viral on social media was not written by the commission.
The falsified signature of IEBC chairman Mr Wafula Chebukati appeared on the false letter, which was sent to Team University’s dean of students.
Wafula Chebukati, the author of the false letter posing as the IEBC chairwoman, wanted to know if Sakaja was a student at the institution and what the status of his degree certificate was.
The letter in question surfaced on social media at a time when the election commission was assessing and approving candidates for various seats, with Sakaja requesting permission to run for governor of Nairobi under the UDA banner.
It came to light just days after unconfirmed academic records purporting to be those of Senator Sakaja were shared on social media, with allegations that the same university documents were given to the IEBC and used to acquire clearance for the Senator to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
Sakaja received a second class honours in Bachelor of Science in Management in October 2016 after finishing his studies, according to documents purportedly from Team University.
Sakaja’s degree and graduation have sparked debate. Sakaja was cleared by the electoral commission on June 7 after satisfying all of the qualifications to run for governor and submitting all of the needed documentation.
The Senator’s academic credentials have long been questioned in the wake of reports that he cheated on his exams.
The Senator’s academic credentials have been questioned repeatedly amid claims that he did not complete his Actuarial Science degree at the University of Nairobi and hence could not qualify to run for governor.
He denied accusations that he lacked a genuine degree certificate, claiming that he had completed his studies and submitted his papers to the IEBC without specifying which papers he submitted.
The congressman went on to say that he used the same documents to seek IEBC approval to run for his current position in 2017.
“I am sufficiently qualified, the documents I presented are the same documents I presented in 2017 to vie for Senator, so I have been cleared to vie for Nairobi governor.
“Our march is unstoppable, our faith unshakeable and our victory is inevitable. We must make Nairobi work, we must restore our city back to its former glory by offering our people, order, dignity, hope, and opportunity for all,” he stated shortly after he was cleared by IEBC.
