The government has officially launched the Raila Amolo Odinga Regional Leadership and Governance Academy at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen leadership training and governance across Kenya and the wider East African region. The launch coincided with the institution’s centenary celebrations.
The academy is designed to serve as a centre for developing ethical, visionary and transformational leaders through executive education, policy research and governance programmes. It is expected to provide training for public servants, elected leaders, administrators and professionals while promoting best practices in public leadership and institutional management.
Government officials said the institution honours the leadership legacy of the late Raila Amolo Odinga, whose public service and advocacy for democratic governance left a lasting impact on Kenya and the continent.
The academy aims to preserve those ideals by fostering leadership founded on integrity, accountability, innovation and service to citizens.
The Kenya School of Government noted that the academy will also strengthen regional cooperation by bringing together participants from across Africa to exchange ideas, build leadership capacity and develop solutions to emerging governance challenges.
Programmes offered are expected to focus on public policy, conflict resolution, strategic leadership, economic transformation and public sector innovation.
The launch reflects the government’s broader commitment to investing in leadership development as a driver of effective public service and sustainable national development.
Officials expressed confidence that the academy will become a leading regional centre of excellence for governance and leadership studies.
