Social media has been rife with speculation ever since Irene Nekesa, the Bahatis’ former house help, quietly moved out of their home a few weeks ago.
The main question circulating online is whether Diana and Bahati truly paid Irene a monthly salary of Sh.100k, or if this was merely a stunt for social media.
A Shocking Departure
Her departure came as a shock to fans, especially since Irene had grown close to the Bahati family, often appearing in their YouTube videos and social media posts.
What intensified the speculation about a potential fallout was the fact that Diana Marua never publicly acknowledged Irene’s exit or wished her well in her future endeavors.

Irene Nekesa’s Struggles Exposed
A few days ago, Irene went viral when she shared a video on social media, asking for help and revealing the difficult living conditions she was facing in her small bedsitter.
This sparked questions among netizens about where all the money she earned while working with the Bahatis had gone.
Addressing the Salary Controversy
In a recent interview with Commentator 254, Irene addressed these questions and spoke candidly about her finances and current situation.
“That salary… Let me ask you, Commentator, if I asked you how much you make in a month, would you tell me? How much does YouTube pay you? The story about my salary with my boss is private. Sometimes, even with close friends, you don’t tell them everything,” Irene responded when asked about her pay.
Financial Challenges and Family Responsibilities
She explained that she was facing financial difficulties, as in addition to being a mother, she was also responsible for caring for her aging parents and several other relatives who depended on her.
“I didn’t have money right now… The little I had, I spent on paying a videographer. I also have a child and aging parents at home. People can plan what you should do with your salary, but you’re the only one who knows how to manage it. In a family of eight, maybe you’re the only one they’re relying on.”
Irene Nekesa on Online Criticism
Irene went on to say,
“People have been asking where all the money went… I wasn’t borrowing. When they say ‘from mansion to beggar,’ it really hurt me. People see that Bahati has money and assume it’s mine. But they forget that when you work, you agree on a salary, and that’s what you get. People often look at someone else’s pockets and think it’s their money.”
Her words shed light on the reality of her financial situation, highlighting how her role as a primary caregiver to several family members contributed to her current challenges.
