The Truth Behind Viral WhatsApp Conversation Linked to Maurice Chichi’s death

The AFC Leopards community has felt the sting of death after the thirteen-time Football Kenya Federation Premier champions lost their former treasurer Maurice Choge Chichi.

Chichi died on Sunday morning when he collapsed on a staircase and was rushed immediately to hospital but could not be saved.

Many Kenyans online connected his death to a viral WhatsApp chat that claimed his wife pushed him to death.

However, the family of the late Maurice Chichi, have clarified that his death is not related to the screenshot.

Chichi’s family released a statement on his official Facebook page confirming the football administrator’s death.

“We want to confirm that the alleged conversations doing rounds on Social Media is fake news from TikTok.

As a Family, we want to Confirm that Maurice Chichi passed on in Nairobi and Not the rural home.

Secondly The Late had no kids by the name Roy or Jay. A lot in that conversation is does not match His last moments. His Mother is also deceased.

We hereby ask all that have made this serious claim to kindly respect the family during this hard time.

This is causing levels of unrest and unnecessary tension,” family spokesperson Clinton Dambiz said.

The late Chichi was elected as the AFC Leopards Treasurer in June 2019 after garnering 506 votes against Napali Imbezi’s 18.

AFC Leopards paid tribute to Chichi;

“We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing on of our former treasurer Maurice Chichi Choge Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Chichi’s family, friends and relatives.”

He only served for one term and was not cleared to run in 2022 by the Centre for Multiparty Democracy -Kenya (CMD), which was mandated to oversee the elections.
