Azimio suspends mass protests, go back to bipartisan talks with KK

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has canceled the anti-government demonstration that was scheduled to continue on May 3.

Eldas Adan Keynan was removed from the bipartisan dialogue team by the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, prompting the opposition, led by ODM leader Raila Odinga, to make a decision.

Opiyo Wandayi, the minority leader in the National Assembly, explained in a statement that the suspension of the protests was due to the government’s decision to rebuild its team.

“This evening, the leadership of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party met and agreed to once suspend the mass protests that we had earlier scheduled to continue tomorrow.

The coalition took this step following the decision by Kenya Kwanza to acceede to one of our demands that informed the resumption of mass action,” Wandayi said.

However, the opposition pointed out that they will resume mass demonstrations if the government side shows dishonesty in the bipartisan talks.

“We also wish to reiterate that we will not hesitate to resume mass action at the slightest indication of lack of goodwill and honesty on the Kenya Kwanza side,” he added.
