Slain Nyamira headteacher found dead in nurse’s house had received 2.8 million loan

The heinous murder of a 47-year-old Getengereirie Primary School headmaster in Nyamira county has taken an unexpected turn.

The horribly mangled body of Ezekiel Nkeere Gitangwa was discovered covered in a carpet at the home of a 33-year-old Nyamaiya Health Centre nurse who is one of the suspects.

Detectives probing the terrible crime say Gitangwa was murdered just days after accepting a KSh 2.8 million loan from a famous financial institution among teachers.

Two teachers who guaranteed him the loan said they had no idea how much he had requested or what he planned to do with it.

In another twist of fate, the dead owing the accused killer nurse, who is still at large, KSh 3 million.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives said the debt had caused a major rift between the slain teacher and the nurse.

The medic had reportedly turned to the teacher’s friends imploring them to convince him to pay the debt in vain. At the time of his death, Gitangwa had not committed to settling the debt.

It is not clear if the teacher had obtained the loan to repay the suspect who reportedly wanted to buy land.

Surprisingly, Gitangwa’s family was not aware of the KSh 3 million he owed the nurse.

The family said the deceased had built two houses in his rural home in North Mugirango. They, however, did not know the source of the cash.

Gitangwa reportedly used what was left of the loan to buy himself a car.

It is reported that the deceased and the nurse often hang out together in Nyamira local joints during weekends.

The nurse is said to have received millions of shillings as benefits following the death of her Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) husband.
Two people arrested

So far, two suspects in the case have been arrested and arraigned.

The first suspect, a boda boda rider, received KSh 4,000 from the victim’s phone. He withdrew KSh 3,900 before handing over KSh 3,600 to the suspected murderers.

A mobile money agent is the second suspect involved in the suspicious transactions.

Money was deposited into her account, which she subsequently withdrew and handed over to the suspects.
