Due to a grave medical ailment he has battled since childhood, 17-year-old Michael Otieno has been trudging the hallways of Kenyatta National Hospital for the past three months.
The talented young guy, who hadn’t attended school in over a year, checked himself into the Narok County Referral Hospital before being taken by ambulance to KNH on August 28.
Speaking on Citizen TV, Michael revealed that he made the decision to seek medical care on his own because his family was unconcerned.
“I was in so much pain and took myself to a hospital in Narok, but the doctors got tired of treating me and transferred me here,” he started.
The fact that Michael has been living alone since being committed and no one has visited him since is even more distressing.
He discloses that he was given the news that he had sickle cell anemia when he was just two months old and that the rest of his life has been marked by periods of suffering and uncertainty.
He is essentially paralyzed by the condition, but he is currently unable to have the surgery since his blood supply is insufficient.
The victim’s sickle cell stays in their body for the rest of their lives, which is the most frustrating aspect, according to him.
The patient claims that he has encountered various medical professionals who have informed him that his ailment prevents him from reaching adulthood.
