Wilson Sossion, a former candidate for election to the House of Representatives, has not been chosen to lead the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) (CEO).
The former secretary general of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) called the online speculations about his appointment “fake news” in an interview with Kenyans.co.ke.
“Fake stories. I am not aware” Sossion refuted the reports.
According to Peter Amunga, Director of Communications at KNUT, he discredited the web stories as being inaccurate and misleading.
“Dr. Nancy Macharia still has a tenure of office,” Amunga indicated adding that there is an elaborate constitutional process that has to be followed for the selection of a new TSC CEO.
Section 8(1) of the TSC Act requires that whenever a vacancy arises in the commission, it shall, by notice in the Gazette, declare a vacancy and constitute a selection panel for the purpose of selecting suitable candidates for appointment.
The Dr. Macharia’s second term in office started in July, 2020 and therefore she still has three years of her second five-year term at the helm of the teachers’ employer.
Before the selection panel sends the names of the most competent applicants to the President for appointment, the procedure also involves shortlisting and screening the applications.
Amunga said, “You cannot just appoint anyone to that office anytime you want to.”
