Ruto wants Central Bank to compel Betting companies to pay taxes: “They’re opaque”

President William Ruto has today attended at the joint Safaricom-KCB-NCBDA presser.

CBK governor Patrick Njoroge is also present.

According to President William Ruto, the internet betting companies are now functioning in an opaque market.

During the press conference, Ruto pleaded with the CBK governor to moderate the businesses so they could also pay taxes.

“I am happy that the governor is bringing our online betting companies into the regulation space because we also want them to pay taxes. They are operating in an opaque space.”

Addressing Safaricom, Ruto said he purposed to attend the Safaricom meeting because he was sent by their customers.

He argued that his presence was for the sake of those who could not access the Safaricom offices.

“I was actually planning to come to you to have this meeting with you. I have been sent by your customers. The people who cannot make it to your offices or the negotiating table. The people want a mutually beneficial relationship, win-win out of this relationship,” he said.
