Jacque Maribe clears the air on alleged appointment as Gachagua’s Communications Director
Former Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe on Monday, September 26, came out to clear the air after word went round that she had landed a plum government job.
In a statement posted on her Instagram account, Maribe denied claims that she had been appointed as Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Director of Communication.
She stated that she had received many congratulatory messages from colleagues, friends, and fans, whom she thanked for believing in her.
“I am not the Director of Communications at the Deputy President’s Office. Thank you all for the well wishes, calls, and text messages. Mambo ya God,” Maribe wrote.
Maribe was forced to issue a clarification after she topped the country’s trending list on Twitter, over what could have arguably been her biggest comeback in the media industry.
According to the reports, Maribe’s new position would see her organize press conferences for the DP and gatekeeping information from the office of the Deputy President.
Kenyans expressed mixed reactions to her ‘new job’ with the majority envious of her newly found success.
“Stop it with the envy, I miss Jacque Maribe on the job Maribe on the job,” Nyuroro Osumo said
“The appointment of Jacque Maribe as Director of Communication at the office of the Deputy President is a good sign that companies will always hire candidates with a ‘name’ and overlook fresh graduates,” a tweep named Frank noted.
Notably, the former prime-time TV journalist is not new to managing politicians’ communication as she was part of former Safina Party presidential candidate Jimi Wanjigi’s secretariat.
Maribe was a household name but her career quickly took a turn for the worst after she was implicated in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
However, the former TV siren got a reprieve after it emerged that her DNA did not match that found at the crime scene. Investigating officer Inspector Maxwell Otieno told the court that her genetic composition was not fouNd in the evidence collected.
Reports about Maribe’s appointment come at a time when President William Ruto is yet to name his Cabinet and holders of other key government positions.
Current and former journalists are likely to join Ruto and Gachagua’s press teams. Already, former Citizen TV Hussein Mohamed who served as Director of Communications, WSR Presidential Campaign, is likely to feature in the line-up.
Hussein, who played a key role in packaging Ruto’s messages in the run up to the polls, could be the next State House Spokesperson.
