KBC is a state-run media organisation that started its operations in 1928. It was the first station in Kenya, having been established when Kenya was a British colony.

The station broadcasts in English and Swahili. KBC is currently the largest media house in Kenya which boasts of two TV stations, Channel 1 TV and Channel Y254.

KBC unveil new-look team – Nairobi News

KBC TV was rebranded, and it brought on board fresh faces and veteran news presenters who have graced the television screens for years.

Here is a list of presenters sprucing up the bulletins and other popular shows airing on the channel.

1. Nancy Onyancha

Nancy is one of the female news anchors on KBC TV. She has been paired with Harith Salim on Darubini.

Nancy boasts of over ten years of experience in six different media houses, including Switch TV, K24, and Mediamax. Away from the media, she has been happily married to Joab Mwaura since 2018.

2. Beatrice Gatonye Ngetich

The revamped Darubini news program also features Beatrice Gatonye, who hosts the show alongside Juma Bhallo on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

She is an award-winning television journalist with over eight years of experience in newscasting and news reporting.

As a journalist, Beatrice covers human interest stories but is mainly tasked with Swahili news presentation.

3. Juma Bhalo

Juma anchors the Darubini Swahili news program alongside Beatrice Gatonye. He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies.

Before joining KBC, he worked as the Swahili news anchor for K24. He possesses outstanding skills in news writing and reporting, script and video editing, interviewing and live commentary.

4. Kamche Menza

Kamche wraps up the week on Darubini as she anchors the Swahili news show on Sundays. She is an experienced news reporter with a demonstrated history of working in the media production industry. Kamche is a graduate of media studies from Daystar University.

5. Tom Mboya

Tom is one of the KBC news anchors. Seven years after he cut short his journalism career, he made a comeback as the host of the Prime Edition news anchor on KBC in June 2021. He is famous for his commanding voice and ability to deliver news eloquently.

Tom is the recipient of the coveted CNN Journalist of the Year Award and the Global orders award. The award-winning Kenyan journalist has worked with some of the country’s biggest media houses, including Citizen TV and K24.

6. Betty Kiptum

Betty is among the new journalists unveiled by KBC even as the station rebranded and revamped its status in June 2021.

Before joining KBC, she served as the brand and marketing associate of Reelford Media Intelligence. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and journalism from Moi University.

7. Caroline Njenga

Journalist Caroline Njenga kicked off her journey at KBC back in 2016, but she left in 2018. She is currently hosting the Business Insight segment, which airs on KBC TV on Thursdays.

Carol alternates with Betty and Cynthia in anchoring the show.

8. Cynthia Nyamai

She alternates with Carol and Betty in anchoring the Business Insight show on KBC TV. Her career journey as a journalist began at KTN, where she was able to accomplish so much within a short time. Cynthia has also worked as a freelance writer for Forbes magazine Africa.

She is a graduate of United States International University. After conquering the world of media, she established her own public relations firm known as Cynthia Nyamai Communications.

9. Shiksha Arora

Shiksha is the host of the Easy Friday English news bulletin on KBC TV. The former K24 News anchor is among new faces unveiled by the State Broadcaster as it geared up for a relaunch.

Arora, who is of Indian descent, is also a dancer and social media enthusiast.

She studied microbiology and biotechnology at the University of Nairobi. Aurora also pursued a masters in broadcast journalism at the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom.

She debuted her professional career when she was hired to work for Easy FM.

10. Fayaz Qureshi

Fayaz was unveiled as the host of Legends Edition on KBC TV in June 2021 after a long spell. He boasts of a journalism career that spans decades.

Fayaz started his career on Channel 62 before it was renamed KTN. He is best remembered for his role as the host of the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire show on KTN.

11. Catherine Kasavuli

Kasavuli is the anchor of the Legend Edition show airing on Saturdays on KBC. She began her career in media in 1980 as a radio continuity announcer at the Voice of Kenya.

Kasavuli is a veteran newswoman who has worked for several media houses, including KTN and Royal Media Services.

She anchored her last news bulletin on July 4, 2013. Eight years later, she has made a grand comeback on the screen, thanks to a new deal she has signed with KBC to anchor the Legends weekend news show.

Physically, age is clearly catching up with her, but her voice still remains as charming as it was a decade or so ago.

12. Ray Manyara

Regina Gacheri Manyara, famously known as Ray Manyara, is the senior business reporter and television host at KBC. She joined the station in 2013, and she boasts of nine years of quality working experience.

Currently, she is one of the Good Morning Kenya presenters on KBC. Ray graduated with a degree in mass communication from Daystar University.

13. Caren Kibett

The beauty said she joined K24 in January 2017 as an intern before rising through the ranks.

Caren was among hundreds of journalists laid off by Mediamax in June 2020.

After over a year out in the cold, she got a second chance.

In August 2021, she announced joining the national broadcaster, writing:

“I’m back! My new home is KBC TV. See you tonight for the latest in the world of sports.”

Her move came months after KBC’s big relaunch, where they unveiled a bunch of new faces.
