Students seeking to join universities and colleges in September now have an opportunity to revise their applications.
This follows an announcement by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) that the window to apply for transfers will be opened on Monday, July 25.
The transfer opening will be run until August 24 for students seeking to change their initial universities or colleges. The transfer period will also be open for students seeking to join Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) colleges.
“KUCCPS portal will open on Monday, July 25, 2022, for inter-institutional transfer applications for students placed to various universities, colleges, and TVET institutions and end on August 24, 2022,” read the KUCCPS announcement.
How to Apply
To apply, students will be required to match the qualifications and cut-off points for the specific courses they have as imposed by the institutions. Cut-off points required to enroll in various courses vary according to the level of the university.
“For a transfer application to go through, an applicant must qualify for the programs that he or she wishes to transfer to, in addition to satisfying the applicable cut-off points,” KUCCPS CEO, Agnes Wahome, told KBC.
The placement service further provides an opportunity to track the transfer application progress through the portal.
Applicants will be able to monitor their applications through the process which includes approval from the two involved institutions.
The inter-institution transfer window gives university and college applicants an opportunity to review their application results. In most cases, students dissatisfied with the placement by KUCCPS apply for transfers.
The process for applying for a transfer will come at a cost of Ksh1,000, which is the processing fee. The payment will be remitted through a pay bill number provided in the portal.
Both the receiving and releasing institutions will be given a maximum of seven days to endorse or decline the transfers. Upon the lapse of these seven days, the applicant will be forced to restart the process.
Over 144,000 students qualified to join universities in the 2021 KCSE assessment. Out of these, some 16,310 candidates snubbed university applications and instead opted to pursue other opportunities.
This transfer window will pave way for the students’ admission to their respective universities come September.
